John Tiedemann was born in New York City in 1906. His father passed away when he was three years old, so he and his family moved from NYC to Jersey City, NJ. He dropped out of school in 6th grade and went to work at a foundry to help support his widowed mother. Even though he was working at a foundry, at the young age of 12 he had bigger things in mind.
